The summer term 2008 has been busy and we have managed to get a few of
our events on camera. Here are our highlights.
Tuesday 22 July: West Grinstead
West Grinstead Station
The platforms and signal make a very distinctive sight on the Downs Link |
Information carriage
The ranger service has an old railway carriage full of information next to the Downs Link path |
Welcome to West Grinstead
Pauline explains the rules for the evening to the Cubs |
Signs of nature
The first group try to work out what has caused each of the signs in the photos |
Tree hunters
Meanwhile the other group is hunting for different types of tree |
Found one
Cameron found a spindle tree |
Watching
There were more than trees to find - this is a Greater Spotted Woodpecker |
Hawthorn
The Cubs find another labelled tree but would they recognise it without the label? |
Time for some answers
Pauline checks the answers in the nature quiz |
Off we go
The Cubs head off on the Downs Link - staying behind Pauline of course |
On the way back
Pauline gets the Cubs to walk quietly to see if we can hear any birds |
Tuesday 15 July - steam We had a surprise
visitor tonight. The Cubs weren't expecting anything so were rather taken
aback when Nick and Fred arrived
What's that noise
The first the Cubs knew was when we heard a lot of hissing and chuffing coming from the road |
How does it work?
We had a good look at the firebox and boiler to see how it all worked |
All to scale
The model is a quarter scale and everything is reduced, even the little bucket on the front |
Saturday 12 July - Greenwich
Tea break
When we arrived at Greenwich Park the Cubs decided it was time for a tea break |
Photo opportunity
We stopped for pictures outside the Royal Observatory with the Thames and Docklands in the background |
A proper look
Here is the view without the Cubs in the way |
Lunchtime
After a look round the time galleries in the observatory it was time for lunch in the park |
Free time
We went back into the observatory for the planetarium show and astronomy galleries but after that had some free time in the park |
Hello from the other side
We crossed the river using the foot tunnel and ended up in Island Gardens |
Across the river
This is the view of the Greenwich end of the tunnel from Island Gardens |
Going underground
The Cubs prepare to return to Greenwich through the tunnel |
Tuesday 8 July - we invested Baloo
All star cast
We were pleased to be visited by District Commissioner, Loo Rosser and our Group Scout Leader, Steve Stocker |
Introduction
The District Commissioner tells the Cubs what we are about to do |
Group Scarf
Steve presents the group scarf |
All done
...and badges |
Congratulations
Loo gives Baloo her certificate and provisional warrant |
Group photo
Tuesday 17 June This was just an "ordinary" pack
meeting (whatever that means) but Fox was helping us and had his camera -
hence more pictures of Akela than we are used to seeing
Rounders
We started off with a game of rounders outside |
Near miss
Rounder
Looks as if Tom is going to get home |
Wait for it
The fielders wait for the next hit |
A diffferent view
The photographer moves behind the batsman |
Back inside
Then it was back into the hall for a game of shipwrecks |
Akela calls out the commands
Fox tried a fancy black and white setting on his camera |
Sharks!
Lie on your back, hands and feet in the air |
Freeze!
