On 27 February 2007 the President of Billingshurst Branch of the Royal British Legion presented a Poppy Appeal Award and a Branch Appreciation Certificate to the Cub Scout Leaders from 1st Billingshurst Scout Group.

Colin Banks, Branch President said "I am proud of the work carried out by the Scouts and Guides Association here in Billingshurst. The support we receive from the leaders and the enthusiasm shown by the Cub Scouts during the Poppy Appeal campaign each year is fantastic. These awards are our way of saying thank you. Every year we witness the death of servicemen and women as young as 19 years of age. We share the sorrow and anguish of their wives and children. I believe that the members of the Scout and Guide associations need very little persuasion to come forward and help the Royal British Legion with its task - their understanding and support is a tribute to those who have died or lost their lives in service to their country."

Our press coverage

During the Poppy Appeal in 2006 the Cubs supported the poppy sellers in Budgens and also helped count the money. Andy Chennell, Group Scout Leader said "We are pleased to be able to support the British Legion - we like to play our part in remembering those people who have died in the wars and major conflicts in the last 90 years. We think that it is very important that the young people get involved."

2007 is the year when we celebrate 100 years of Scouting and we look forward to taking part in the poppy appeal this November.
